4D is the simplest lottery game sold in Malaysia: you pick a four-digit number from 0000 to 9999 and the operator draws numbers on scheduled draw days. If your number comes out in one of the prize positions, you are paid according to a fixed table. There is no skill component, no strategy that changes the odds, and no way to influence which numbers are drawn.
The number you are betting on
There are exactly 10,000 possible four-digit numbers. Every one of them — 0000, 1234, 7777 — is equally likely on any given draw. Leading zeros count: 0042 is a valid, ordinary number, not a special case.
You buy the number at a licensed outlet or through an operator’s own channel. The bet slip asks for three things:
- The number itself
- The bet type (Big or Small, and optionally a permutation bet such as iBox or mBox)
- The stake, usually in multiples of RM1
Once the bet is placed and the draw closes, nothing about it can be changed. Keep the printed ticket: it is the only proof of the bet, and every operator settles claims against the ticket, not against a screenshot or a memory.
What gets drawn
Each Malaysian 4D draw produces 23 winning numbers:
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize — one number each
- 10 Special numbers
- 10 Consolation numbers
That total is fixed, and it is the same for Magnum, Sports Toto and Da Ma Cai. It is also the number that matters most for a beginner, because it sets the real chance of winning anything at all: 23 numbers out of 10,000.
What a win pays
On a RM1 Big bet the standard payouts are RM2,500 for 1st Prize, RM1,000 for 2nd, RM500 for 3rd, RM180 for a Special and RM60 for a Consolation.
A Small bet costs the same but only pays the top three positions — RM3,500, RM2,000 and RM1,000 — and pays nothing on Special or Consolation. You are trading breadth of coverage for a larger prize on the top three.

Draw days
Malaysia’s three main operators draw on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, with additional special draws announced through the year. Special draws are announced in advance by the operators, and the confirmed dates are listed on our 4D next draw page.
Checking the result
After the draw, compare your number against the published result for that operator and that draw date. Our operator pages — Magnum, Sports Toto, Da Ma Cai — publish each draw, and the homepage shows all operators for the current date side by side.
Two habits are worth forming from the first ticket:
- Check the draw date and draw number, not just the digits. The same number appears in different positions on different days.
- Treat any result page, including this one, as a convenience. The operator’s own published result is the record that settles a claim.
Before you spend anything
4D is a fixed-odds game with a house edge. Over any length of time, the expected return on a 4D bet is negative — that is how the game is funded. Nobody has a system that beats it, and anyone selling one is selling you something else entirely, which is the subject of our 4D scams guide.
